Tron is the #1 Movie in the Country!

By Glenn

A big "f you" to all the people who said it couldn't happen. This weekend, Tron became the NUMBER ONE MOVIE IN THE COUNTRY!

I was conceived and three months later born in 1982 when the first Tron was released. People who believe in reincarnation and other New Age ideals might argue this ties me intractably to the film, among other pointless arguments those types make. I never saw the film on VHS or DVD but I've always known of its existence and even more always known it was about a virtual world of sorts. Most importantly, I the most of always knew a sequel to Tron would be the #1 movie in the country.

Fast forward to today, when I was watching the Today Show (as I do every morning). During a commercial break all of a sudden graphics came on my screen that resembled the original Tron as I pictured it in my mind. A voice came on the screen while Jeff Bridges and others danced around in weird suits. It told me to go see Tron because it was the #1 movie in the country.

There are many people responsible for Tron: Legacy becoming the #1 movie in the country. Someone directed the movie. Another person picked which actors would fit the roles best as envisioned by the screenwriter. Someone else designed the virtual reality/video game costumes that make the film so visually appealing. Jeff Bridges decided to come back in the sequel to reprise what I assume is his role in the first film.

Most responsible for the success of this film is the American people who worked so hard to get into theatres to see it. In cities as big as Cleveland or Toledo they had a choice between at least ten different films to see, but they chose Tron: Legacy because it was a sequel to the original Tron and because it is about a virtual video game world. In smaller towns the choice was easier, but it is worth commending everyone who paid to see this film. I hope these people are proud when they see the #1 movie in the country commercials, like I felt when Obama had his rally in Grant Park November 2008.
